Initial Post...

Ok, so I'm learning about this blogging thing, and how to take advantage of google. Selling my technological soul, you might say. Nevertheless, I am forever curious about how to affect learning through the use of technology.
I intend initially to blog about education, issues at my own school, and related ideas; where it goes depends on what comes to mind and if anybody really reads any of this stuff anyway.
So here's the first salvo: we are teaching the wrong stuff. Wait, not we. I am teaching the wrong stuff. Kids today can look up how to do all these things - see www.wolframalpha.com if you want a strong illustration. This is forcing me to take an uncomfortable look at what happens in my classroom, and I don't like what I see.
Not enough critical reasoning, too much skill emphasis, result is that kids are dependent on me and not nearly reliant enough on their own abilities. They demand to be spoon-fed because I show up everyday with spoons.
